13 things not to miss at HUBweek

While a lot of events have already sold out, fear not: there’s still loads to experience during this year’s festival for the future. To help you get the most out of HUBweek 2018, here’s the lowdown on what not to miss this week:

Wednesday, October 10-Friday, October 12: 9AM-5PM

HUBweek’s marquee event series, the Forums, will bring you a crash course in innovation–from the future of health and medicine to cities, robotics, and work. Hear from revolutionary thought leaders including Former UN Ambassador Samantha Power, Boston Dynamics Founder Marc Raibert, Singer/Songwriter Ruth Pointer, Former Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, The Broad Institute’s Eric Lander, Microsoft President & CEO Brad Smith, and NY Times Columnist Maureen Dowd.

Tuesday, October 9: 7PM
For all our true crime lovers out there, you’re not going to want to miss this one. New hit podcast, Last Seen, will host a live recording in Faneuil Hall. From WBUR and The Boston Globe, Last Seen examines the most valuable and confounding art heist in history: the theft of 13 artworks, including Rembrandt’s only seascape, from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.
  • Attend a documentary film screening

The GlobeDocs Film Festival returns for the fourth year as a part of HUBweek. More than a dozen films will be screened throughout the week, with stories examining the kidnappings by Boko Haram, unconscious bias, and NASA’s journey to tomorrow (feat. Rory Kennedy and Meghna Chakrabarti).

Throughout the week, visionaries will take Center Stage and Faneuil Hall to share their stories (free with a HUBweek General Admission Pass). Hear from bestselling author Glennon Doyle and her wife Abby Wambach, SoulCycle Co-Founder Julie Rice, visionary Walter Isaacson; charity:water Founder Scott Harrison; andMarch for Our Lives Co-Founder David Hogg.
  • Celebrate Boston
Thursday, October 11, 6-9PM
Boston’s celebration of the year returns for the third time, this time taking over the Hall of the Future. Come meet and mingle with some of Boston’s most promising talent and most innovative organizations over drinks, games, and interactive experiences as we celebrate Boston. Presented by BNY Mellon.
  • Get your groove on @Night
Weds., October 10-Saturday, October 13
Each night The HUB comes alive with light, sound, and performance. And this year, HUBweek’s free nightly parties take over the entire site. Hit the Back Deck for some local brews and wine (21+) and explore the installations throughout The HUB. Head to the Ideas Dome Presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts for this year’s HUBweek Silent Disco series, run into pop-up performances throughout the site, or check out the night’s main performances on Center Stage.
  • Explore Container Village
Weds., October 10-Sunday, October 14; 11AM-9PM (10PM on Saturday; 5PM on Sunday)
Once again, artists and innovators will transform shipping containers at The HUB as part of HUBweek’s five-day free arts festival–through site-specific installations and participatory projects. Play in MilliporeSigma's mobile science lab, the Curiosity Cube, or feel what it's like to wear a prosthetic at Blue Cross Blue Shield's Let's Get Together container. And get your 'gram ready for the Illusion Rooms: mini shipping containers built out as optical illusions to fool the beholder’s eye.
  • Experience the future firsthand
Weds., October 10-Sunday, October 14; 11AM-9PM (10PM on Saturday; 5PM on Sunday)
A 8,000 sq. foot glass pavilion drops on City Hall Plaza this Oct. 10-14 and transforms into a showcase from the future. Featuring the most groundbreaking advances in art, science, and technology across multiple industries, the Hall of the Future is where you can experience the future, firsthand. Come check out the Future of Health Tech, local innovators on Thursday, and the future of Civic Design on Friday. 
  • Take a picture in front of #HUBweekWalls
Weds., October 10-Sunday, October 14; All day & night
A mix of local and national artists will transform shipping containers dropped on City Hall Plaza live before your eyes. With murals of all different styles, the artists bring dynamic color and vibrancy to the otherwise brick expanse.
  • Transcend into an alternate universe
Weds., October 10-Sunday, October 14; Various Times
The dome is back! And it’s playing host to a number of other-worldly experiences throughout the week–cosmic yoga and meditation,  360° film screenings, dance parties, and performances that as one HUBweek attendee said, will “take your breath away.”
  • Meet some of the most promising startups in the world
Saturday, October 13; 10AM-6PM
100+ of the world’s most promising startups descend on City Hall Plaza Saturday, October 13th during HUBweek’s Demo Day. Featuring meetups, a massive startup showcase, talks, and tailored workshops for entrepreneurs and startup joiners alike, the day will culminate with six finalists taking Center Stage to share their inspiring stories and compete head-to-head for this year’s title.
  • Toast to a great week 
Weds., October 10-Saturday, October 13; 5PM-9PM (1PM-10PM on Saturday)
Hit the Back Deck to enjoy wine from our friends at Archer Roose, cider from Downeast, small bites, and Night Shift Brewing (21+). 
  • Meet more than two dozen robots 
Sunday, October 14; 10AM-5PM

From our homes to the office, the warehouse floor to city streets, robots are becoming more and more prevalent in society. Boston is a leader in supporting the development, testing, and adoption of some of this game-changing technology, and we invite you to experience it firsthand at The HUB Presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance. Bring your family to check out the latest in robotics and experience exciting demos of products to come.
